*MCVP - Friends of the Children: Family Engagement
The overall goal of this VISTA project is to increase access to healthcare and public services for Friends of the Children beneficiaries by identifying caregiver needs and creating an online and physical resource bank to be supported by community partners and used by families within the program. Friends-Montana is most concerned with the urgent needs experienced by Western Montana children who are living with the compounding pressures of trauma and poverty. Many families in Western Montana do not have the support, financial resources, and social capital necessary to thrive in today's increasingly challenging conditions. Challenges experienced by families in Western Montana include a lack of quality, affordable childcare; a service-based economy where wages have not kept pace with the cost of living; and severe shortages in behavioral and mental health services. Where data is available, these challenges are shown to disproportionately impact our BIPOC and LGBTQ2S+ communities. This VISTA project will move low-income individuals out of poverty by building resource systems and networks resulting in improved protective factors and stability for families facing the steepest barriers. Located in Missoula, MT!
Member Duties : The VISTA will support Friends - Montana's first-ever caregiver survey, helping to identify pressures and obstacles experienced in the household. The VISTA will develop a dynamic, searchable resource bank and create systems to update and utilize the resource. The VISTA will also work to establish clothing and essential items closet for use by beneficiaries and will strive to establish relationships with service providers who may offer in-kind donations to benefit participating families.
