Job SummaryAs a member of IT Operations, reporting to the
Director of Infrastructure & Data Services, the Enterprise
Architect is responsible for leading the architecture, design, and
development of Avantor's enterprise IT environment, which includes
AWS cloud services and data center services in both commercial and
regulated government environments. As the Enterprise Architect, you
will guide team members at all levels of the organization to
architectures that optimized in resiliency, cost, security, and
compliance. As part of this well-respected IT group, you will enjoy

team environment.MAJOR JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Analyze and improve existing PaaS and IaaS offerings, including
guidance and support in refactoring applications and migrating
remaining data center applications to cloud
- Recommend and design AWS cloud-based service and data center
infrastructure solutions (enterprise architecture roadmap).
- Model the cost and implications of potential architectures and
recommend the optimal solution to business and application
teams.
- Size server instances and align backup solutions.
- Advise on stateless compute, fault tolerance, high
availability, and disaster recovery.
- Provide cost, benefit, and risk information as inputs to the
business case process and coordinate the release of services and
servers upon approval.
- Participate and advise in vendor, product, and customer
technical discussions.
- Maintain the infrastructure service request process,
application patterning documentation and migration to AWS play
books.
- Retain expert level skillset through continuous learning,
certification and participation in external technical groups and
events, including re:Invent.
- Other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS (Education/Training,
Experience and Certifications)
- AWS Solutions Architect certification(s) is required
- IT enterprise design experience is required
- Expert level experience in VMWare, storage, backup, popular AWS
services (including EC2, storage options, container services and
various relational database services) and operating systems
(Windows and Linux) is required
- Data center to cloud migration experience is required
- Basic knowledge of general IT licensing and license models is
required
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent work
experience is required
- Strong knowledge of application refactoring is highly
desired
- Experience with server/service automation and orchestration is
highly desired
- Experience in project management is desired
- Experience with enterprise WAN and LAN technologies is a
plus
- Experience working with centralized printing solutions is a
plus
- Experience working in US government regulated environments and
knowledge of AWS Gov regions and related regulations (NIST 800-171,
DFARS, CUI and/or CMMC) is a plus
- Industry experience in life sciences, pharma, warehouse and/or
manufacturing is a plus
- Other AWS certifications (Security, Network) are a plus
- ITIL, Azure and other Microsoft certifications are a
plusKNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge:
- Understanding of business case and return on investment
calculations.
- Understanding of basic contracts and service level
agreements.
- Knowledge of Enterprise WAN/LAN technologies and
monitoring.
- Skills and Abilities:
- Presentation, communication, and organizational skills
necessary to lead activities, meetings and conversations with IT
and business executives.
- Ability to quickly assess a business problem and, when
appropriate, drive a solution to the business problem rather than
only focusing on the IT requirements.
- Ability to understand IT requests from the customer's point of
view.

EFFORT
- Hybrid-work is preferred by many coworkers in this
organization, ranging from two to four days in the office and one
to three days from home.
- Full-time work from the office is also an option.
- Remote work is an option, with the ability to remain as such if
agreed upon during the hiring process (monthly or quarterly office
visits are highly encouraged).
- Typical work hours fall between the business hours of North
American east coast time-zones, flexing as required by current
projects.
- Reasonable flexibility in working hours is mutual, flexibility
may be agreed to for support of personal needs and can also be
necessary to support work activities and deadlines.
- Personal computer will be supplied, adequate network
connectivity while working remotely is required and is the
responsibility of the individual.

remote-work potential, the use of Microsoft Teams for nearly all
remote meetings (enabling near real-time closed captioning during
meetings) as well as working hours flexibility.

- A frequent volume of work and deadlines does impose some
strain.
- Work assignments vary and are not highly documented into
standard operating procedures, prior experience and precedent are

- May occasionally need to travel domestically or
internationally.
- Minimal physical effort is required. Work is mostly sedentary
but does require walking, standing, bending, reaching, lifting, or
carrying objects that typically weigh less than 10
