These positions are is located on a Forest Service unit and are responsible for providing a variety of administrative tasks and customer service activities.

Responsibilities

  • Receives and responds to routine requests for information received from internal and external customers.
  • Provides current and accurate information about recreational opportunities and conditions that can impact forest activities.
  • Monitors financial reports to ensure deposit was received and addresses and researches any transactions that are delinquent or missing.
  • Performs purchasing and procurement actions in support of the unit.
  • Submits requests to obtain housing lease agreements and completes steps to allow occupancy.
  • Serves as the records management liaison creating, maintaining and managing official records. Follows agency directives and national policy and guidelines.
  • Responsible for incoming and outgoing correspondence, and maintains electronic filing system and pertinent references, manuals and handbooks.

Occasional travel - You may be expected to travel for training.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the eligibility and qualifications requirements as defined below by the closing date of the announcement. For more information on the qualifications for this position, visit the Office of Personnel Management's General Schedule Qualification Standards.

Specialized Experience Requirement:

For the GS-05: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as the majority of the following: greeting visitors and responding to phone and written inquiries personally or referring to other staff as appropriate; maintaining written records and files in electronic and/or hardcopy filing systems; and using word processing software and printing equipment to create, copy, edit, store, retrieve, and print standardized documents ensuring correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, and format; OR a bachelor's degree or 4 years of successfully completed education above high school; OR a combination of successfully completed post-high school education (in excess of the first 60 semester hours) and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
