Summary

This announcement is open to fill Nurse positions under Excepted Service Only at the GS-4 grade level only..

The position of Nurse is located is located within a hospital or health center in the Billings Area Indian Health Service, Division of Nursing Services, Branch of Nursing: Inpatient or Outpatient Nursing Services. The position reports to the Supervisory Nurse or designee.

This position will support the Federal Government's response efforts to COVID-19.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct professional nursing care to patients in hospitals or health centers.
  • Interview patients and family members to consult with attending physicians, other staff members to determine and evaluate the kind of health and physical care needed.
  • Observe and document patients' condition, change and/or reaction to medication and medical treatment.
  • Maintain health records by documenting observation, nursing intervention and therapeutic measures administered.
  • Provide counseling and teaching to patients and families or surrogates on preventive, curative and rehabilitative measures involved in health care.

This is a designated position covered by Public Law 101-630, requiring contact or control over Indian children. Due to this requirement, the agency must ensure that persons hired for these positions have not been found guilty of or pleaded nolo contendere or guilty to certain crimes.

Measles and Rubella immunization required for selectees born after 1957. Seasonal Influenza immunization is required for civilian health care facility staff working in Indian Health Service health care facilities.

On-call hours or rotating shifts may be required.

Background Investigation: If you are selected for this vacancy, you must undergo a pre-employment fingerprint check and background investigation. Fingerprint results and background investigation documentation must be cleared prior to hire. After you begin your employment, your continued employment is contingent upon the outcome of a complete background investigation as determined by the sensitivity level of your position. The investigation must find that you are suitable for Federal employment in your position. If you are found not suitable, you will be terminated after you begin work. If you make a false statement in any part of your application, you may not be hired; you may be fired after you begin work; or subject to possible criminal charges. You may be subject to a credit check as a part of the background investigation process.

Fingerprinting, as part of the background investigation process, may be delayed due to COVID-19. All other background investigation procedures will apply. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):

Education: A degree or diploma from a professional nursing educational program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant. (One year of nursing experience as a military corpsman that has been accepted by a State licensing body may be accepted in lieu of education at the GS-4 level.)

License: Applicants must have active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

GS-4: Completion of a program of less than 30 months' duration or associate degree or 1 year of nursing experience as a military corpsman.

Education

For positions requiring positive education requirements, you MUST submit a copy of your transcripts or an itemized list of college courses which includes equivalent information from the transcript (course title, semester/quarter hours, and grade/degree earned) in your resume.
