identities. About the Opportunity: The ACOS of Medicine Services is
a practicing physician who is responsible for defining the mission,
vision, and strategic goals of the Medicine Service Line which
includes a large array of care services delivered in multiple
departments including Inpatient Medicine (10 beds), Express Care,
Specialty Care, Telehealth, Cardio-Pulmonary, and Employee
Occupational Health. The ACOS is responsible for operational
oversight of the entire Medicine Service Line. The ACOS is
responsible for developing the scope of practice for employees
assigned, designing plans of care, and assuring implementation of
quality improvement measures along with developing action plans to
meet performance measures. The ACOS designates service priorities
and objectives, supervises programs, and evaluates the performance
of subordinate staff. The ACOS makes independent, professional
decisions and recommendations with infrequent recourse to
supervisory guidance. The ACOS serves as the liaison to other
Service Lines, facilities, VISN offices, VHA Central Office, other
government agencies, and the community. The ACOS is responsible for
advising management of specific clinical or administrative issues
within the Medicine Service Line and within the Medical Center. The
ACOS serves as a consultant and advisor to subordinates, peers, and
administration. CLINICAL SCOPE OF DUTIES. The ACOS of Medicine
shall be knowledgeable of all disciplines within the Medicine
Service purview. The ACOS should possess the expertise and
competence to perform their specific scope of practice defined
through the medical center credentialing and privileging process.
The ACOS spends approximately 25% of time on clinical
responsibilities in their given specialty. Additionally, provides
clinical oversight of providers within Medicine Service Line and to
providers seeking medical technical guidance or clinical expertise
throughout the facility. ADMINISTRATIVE SCOPE OF DUTIES. The ACOS
of Medicine spends approximately 75% of time managing the Medicine
Service Line which includes a large array of care services
delivered in multiple departments including Inpatient Medicine (10
beds), Express Care, Specialty Care, Telehealth, Cardio-Pulmonary,
and Employee Occupational Health. The ACOS supervises Physicians,
Physician Assistants, Advanced Practice Registered Nurses,
Registered Nurses, Respiratory Therapists, and other administrative
staff. SUPERVISORY CONTROLS. This position has a wide purview of
supervisory responsibility. The ACOS of Medicine is considered a
senior manager with mid-level managers and other non-supervisory
staff as direct reports. This position reports directly to the
Chief of Staff of the Health Care System. Work Schedule: 0730-1600
