The Director of Collaborative Science & Innovation (and Lead Scientist) -is a Research Administrator responsible for providing leadership and direction for the development of an institutional program of research. The Director leads the Collaborative Science and Innovation department in a dyad structure with the Medical Director of Research. The Director is responsible to ensure continuity and consistency across and throughout departments performing research. The Director ensures research is conducted in compliance with federal, state, local, commercial, and non-federal agency policies and regulations governing institutional compliance (human research, conflict of interest, fiscal management, misconduct.) Accountabilities include mentoring, directing and supporting the research team, overseeing performance of personnel, facilitating partnerships and research collaboration, short- and long-range planning for research across the organization, fiscal control and responsibility to manage revenue and costs, physician and interdepartmental/intradepartmental relations and personnel management. Essential Job Functions --- Leads the Collaborative Science and Innovation (CSI) to ensure adherence to organizational mission, vision, values, strategic goals, and business objectives. Interprets and supports the mission and philosophy of Billings Clinic. Responsible for the promotion of, and adherence to, the elements of Billings Clinic's Code of Business Conduct and corporate compliance program as it relates to the business unit.
--- In collaboration with senior and physician leadership, medical staff and others, leads, develops and devises research and quality initiatives which align with Billings Clinic strategic goals.
--- Develops and implements policies and procedures related to the operation of the CSI department, submission of proposals to sponsoring agencies, negotiation of awards and the conduce of research activities at Billings Clinic.
--- Oversees the CSI team to proactively establish new research partnerships across the organization and affiliate network, with communities in the region and government and industry partners.
--- Supports research and innovation across the organization. In the case of externally-sponsored research, oversees lifecycle functions of research including pre-award development and administrative activities, post-award administration, monitoring and fiscal management.
--- Seeks grant funding to support research activities.
--- Together with the Medical Director of Research, acts as a recognized research expert within Billings Clinic and to other health care providers. Provides mentoring and support to Research Scientists and others engaged in research at Billings Clinic.
--- Directs the research team, advising on daily activities and long-term initiatives. Leads the research department in overall marketing, program development, and development of service priorities that support a quality-focused environment and the research objectives of Billings Clinic and the CSI department.
--- Oversees Managers, Research Scientists, Research Navigators, and other direct reports with preparation of business unit budget, staffing, objectives, standards, and staff education programs.
--- Practices process improvement principles to assess and improve the quality of the service/care provided within business unit. Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental, and outside agency safety standards relevant to job performance for business unit and ensures business unit and staff compliance.
--- Develops, retains, recruits, and leads a talented management team committed to accomplishing the organizational/business unit goals, objectives and corporate compliance. Recommends, implements, and evaluates plans and systems that assures sufficient number of qualified and competent staff to provide care/services. Adheres to administrative policy/procedures relating to human resource management.
--- Demonstrates and encourages an ethic of open communication and teamwork throughout the organization. Builds an environment of shared commitment to Billings Clinic's goals and responsibility to achieve quality outcomes.
--- Leads evaluation, selection, and integration of health care technology, information management systems, Institutional Review Board and other systems needed to support research quality and the efficient use of resources.
--- Performs other duties as assigned or as needed to meet the needs of the organization. Minimum Qualifications
Education--- PhD in a related fieldExperience--- 6 years of leadership experience
--- Previous experience in a research environment mentoringresearch scientists
--- Medicalgroup practice management in a multi-specialty clinic preferred
