About the opportunity
SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking Cultural Resources
Technicians to support our Sheridan, Wyoming office. In this role,
you will assist the Field Director and Project Team in completing
archaeological pedestrian surveys, testing, and other field tasks.
You will assist with GPS data collection using iPads and
communicate with the Team through daily reporting of field
activities. Your role will be to conduct archaeological fieldwork
including survey, testing, and resource documentation. Tasks may
include mapping, photography, and artifact and feature recording,
including collection of GPS data. This is a field position
requiring travel and extensive time away from home, often working
long hours in a variety of environments and conditions (including
high altitude, variable temperatures, steep slopes, and inclement
weather). Our Sheridan, Wyoming office has several project
opportunities in Montana and Wyoming. Our team fosters a

highest-quality data collection. This is a temporary, hourly,
non-exempt, field-based assignment typically offering at least 40
hours per week. Candidates may reside in WY, MT, SD, or ND and must
be willing to travel up to 90-100% of the time.
Applicant must be willing to participate in a drug testing and
alcohol screening as part of the pre-employment process, as some
projects require such screenings. SWCA provides lodging, safety and
vehicle equipment, GPS and iPads, and per diem on non-local
projects (typically $68/day). As an employee in this a
Rocky-Mountain/Plains-based position can expect an hourly pay rate
of $19.31/hour to $25.49/hour. Actual pay within this range will
depend on experience and qualifications, and other factors

What you will accomplish
- Perform complete archaeological surveying and field
testing.
- Conduct shovel test pits and associated field recording.
- Complete field forms, digital photography, and in-field
mapping.
- Assist with archaeological office work.
- Participate in GPS data collection in the field under the
supervision of a Field Lead or Project Archaeologist.
- Adhere to the safety program and look out for the safety of
others, promptly communicating and mitigating safety hazards
Experience and qualifications for success
- A Bachelor's Degree in anthropology, archaeology, or a closely
related field is highly preferred.
- Archaeology field school, prior cultural resource management
experience, or comparable experience is required.
- Experience with a wide range of field methodologies, including
archaeological survey, testing, excavation, methodology and/or
monitoring for at least three months is preferred.
- Knowledge of ArcGIS Field Maps is a plus
- Current valid driver's license and the ability to safely
operate a 4wd vehicle on rugged, backcountry roads required
- Ability to travel to a location, walk and conduct fieldwork for
long hours, sometimes in inclement weather, rugged terrain, often
at high altitudes, and ability to carry equipment and supplies
