The Lead Mechanical Designer for the Billings Refinery will be
responsible for completing mechanical designs for piping systems,
structural components, vessels and machines as needed to support
refinery facilities. Activities include the creation of drawings
and bills of material suitable for refinery construction. In
addition, stewardship and maintenance of site evergreen drawing
archives is required. The lead mechanical designer will be
accountable for overseeing mechanical design on multiple projects
consistent with applicable industry codes and Phillips 66 standards
and specifications.
--- Responsibilities May Include
+ Performing all work safely and ethically, comply with company
policies and complete HSE and other training requirements as
required.
+ Providing design and drafting expertise to develop, design, and
construct maintenance projects
+ Becoming a subject matter expert on P66 and Billings Refinery
design standards
+ Maintaining site 3D point cloud databases & CADWorx design
standards
+ Oversight and coordination of 3rd party support designers as
needed
+ Controlling cost, schedule, & contract designer workload
+ Providing technical assistance to the field coordinator &
engineering
+ Maintaining all evergreen drawings including utilities, plot
plans, etc
+ Maintaining project drawing file room organization, file
drawings, drawing searches and scanning
+ Updating PSIP documents such as P&ID/PFD and Piping Line
Schedules
+ Networking with peers internally and externally to share best
practice information
--- Basic Requirments
+ Legally authorized to work in the job posting country.
+ High School diploma or GED equivalent
+ 5 or more years of piping design experience
+ Intermediate proficiency with drafting conventions and techniques
and applying those to design work using company CAD software
(MicroStation and AutoCAD).
+ Ability to interpret basic mechanical and engineering data
+ Willingness and ability to perform/comply with wearing required
personal protective equipment including fall protection, climbing
ladders and stairs and working outside in a variety of weather
conditions.
+ Willing and able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification

+ 10 or more years of piping design experience
+ Associates degree in Technology and/or related field
+ Experience with 3D scanning and incorporating/manipulating data -
Navisworks
+ Encourages creativity, innovation and continuous improvement

+ Ability to balance multiple projects and assignments
simultaneously and to prioritize
+ Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (i.e. Outlook,
Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

The Billings Refinery is located in Billings, Montana. Its
facilities include crude distilling, naphtha reforming, fluid
catalytic cracking, alkylation, hydrodesulfurization and delayed
coking units. The refinery processes a mixture of Canadian heavy,
high-sulfur crude oil delivered by pipeline, and domestic crude oil
delivered by truck. With the startup of a new vacuum distillation
unit in 2017, the refinery has 100 percent heavy crude processing
capability. The refinery produces a high percentage of
transportation fuels and petroleum coke. Finished petroleum
products are distributed by pipeline, rail car and truck. Pipelines
transport most of the refined products to markets in Montana,
Wyoming, Idaho, Utah, Colorado and Washington.
